Hamadōri region / 浜通り

~ Yonomori Cherry Blossom Avenue ~
Four years ago, part of this former restricted area reopened to the public. Today, this beautiful tunnel of cherry blossoms in Tomioka Town is one of the best-known “hanami” spots along the Hamadōri coast and draws visitors each spring. Sakura is the official tree of Tomioka Town, and it holds special meaning for a community still moving forward with recovery. The road stretches over two kilometres, and when I last visited, I was able to enjoy it both on foot and by car. The evening illumination was especially lovely. Pale pink petals sway in the wind and drift through the air, creating a scene that feels almost like stepping into an anime. For travellers who love Japanese animation, it can feel like a dream come to life.

【夜の森桜並木】
4年前に帰還困難区域だったエリアの立ち入り規制が解除されました。富岡町の美しい桜のトンネルは、浜通りを代表する花見スポットとして毎年注目を集めています。桜は町の木となっており、復興が続く地域にとって特別な意味を持つ存在です。2キロ以上続く桜並木は、私が2~3年前に訪れたときは徒歩でも車でも楽しめました。夜のライトアップも素敵でした。淡いピンクの花びらが風に揺れ、舞い散る様子はアニメの世界にいるかのような雰囲気で、アニメが好きな外国人にとって憧れを感じる場所だと思います。

Nakadōri region / 中通り

~ Miharu Takizakura ~
Miharu Takizakura is one of Japan’s three most famous cherry trees and is said to be over 1,000 years old. It is designated as a National Natural Monument. Standing before it, I felt small beside a tree that has quietly witnessed centuries of history. As I looked at its branches cascading like a waterfall and the pale blossoms swaying softly in the air, I felt a gentle sense of calm and knew I wanted to return someday. Because it is such a popular “hanami” spot, it can be difficult to take photos alone during the day because of the crowds. Even so, the grounds are well maintained, and when I visited, many food stalls lined the area.

【三春滝桜】
1000年以上の歴史をもつ、日本三大桜の一つが三春滝桜です。国の天然記念物に指定されています。この木の前に立つと、自分の存在が小さくなるように感じました。私はこの滝のように流れ落ちる枝と淡い花びらを眺めていたときに優しい安心感に包まれたので、「また必ず来よう」と思いました。三春滝桜は人気が高い花見スポットのため、日中に一人で写真を撮るのが難しいほどの人出です。それでも、敷地内はきちんと整備されており、私が訪れた日には屋台も多く並んでいました。

~ Hanamiyama Park ~
It is such a famous spot that it’s hard to find a Fukushima City resident who hasn’t visited at least once. Not only do sakura bloom here, but also plum, quince, and peach trees also blossom. In spring, the whole hillside turns into a patchwork of bright colors. Depending on the season, as you get closer to the park, you may catch a light floral scent in the air. There are several walking routes, and if you make your way to the top, you can enjoy a sweeping view of Fukushima City below. If you enjoy taking your time capturing close-up photos of flowers, this is a lovely place to visit.

【花見山公園】
福島市民なら誰もが知っている有名な観光地です。桜だけでなく、梅や木瓜(ボケ)、花桃なども咲き、春には山全体が鮮やかなタペストリーのように見えます。時期にもよりますが、公園に近づくと花のほのかな香りが広がり、心が落ち着きます。散策ルートはいくつかあり、山頂まで登ると福島市の風景が眼下に広がります。春の花に囲まれたい方は、一度訪れてみていかがでしょうか？

Aizu region / 会津

~ Tsuruga Castle ~
Tsuruga Castle is one of the larger “hanami” spots in the prefecture. From the moment you pass through the first entrance, you are greeted by nearly a thousand cherry trees in bloom. One of my favorite sights is when the petals begin to fall and slowly cover the ground in white, almost like fresh snow. The castle itself is a central part of the view, and visiting it allows you to learn about the history of Aizu region.

【鶴ヶ城】
鶴ヶ城は県内でも有数の花見スポットで、約千本の桜が咲き誇ります。公園に足を踏み入れると、白い花に包まれるようです。花びらが少しずつ舞い落ち、地面まで雪のように白く染まる瞬間も、私が特に好きな光景です。お城そのものも大きな魅力で、見学を通して会津の歴史に触れることができます。
